Press & Media Information

HEAL welcomes enquiries about its work with under-privileged children from the Press and Media. We are proud of our work using education as a tool to free thousands of impoverished children from generational poverty in rural and tribal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. Along with principal partners The Hans Foundation, an ever-growing 'family' of donors, child sponsors, volunteers, supporters, media, government, friends, fundraisers and well-wishers are backing this Journey. HEAL Paradise is the realisation of a dream by HEAL founder Dr Satya Prasad Koneru and his team of volunteers and will become an eco-friendly safe haven for 1,000 of the most vulnerable children of India to be nurtured to their full potential rather than fall victim to the evils of child trafficking and child labour.

HEAL Paradise is the realisation of a dream by HEAL founder Dr Satya Prasad Koneru and his team of volunteers

HEAL, now in its 24th year, was established in 1992 by Dr Satya Prasad Koneru, a UK-based family doctor originally from Vijayawada in India. It began with the donation, by Dr Prasad, of his family home in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. It was to be a home for young orphaned children. This was the start of the Ankita Children’s Home and HEAL.

Since then HEAL, working on the principal that education is the best way for orphaned, destitute and impoverished children to escape the poverty trap in India, has successfully launched a number of projects, including the HEAL Children’s Village, Guntur, and the model village, HEAL Paradise.

HEAL UK’s primary duty is to raise funds for maintaining and expanding projects, offering help, support and guidance to the trustees of HEAL India. There are no administrative offices and no paid administrative staff as all staff involved in the administration of HEAL are volunteers, and pay their own out-of-pocket expenses. So, with minimal admin costs, money donated can go straight to providing shelter, support, education and health care for needy children.

HEAL will celebrate the first 25 years of its Journey in 2017, when the second phase of construction at its flagship development Paradise Village is also due for completion. Next, HEAL plans to create a university close to the Paradise site and expand its schools Poverty Trap programme to enable it to reach its target of lifting 10,000 children out of poverty by the year 2020.
